WoW attends for the 4th time to the UN and presents the Worldwide Declaration of Mothers in 3 CSW62 events

The sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women #CSW62 took at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 12 to 23 March 2018. The priority theme this year were the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls; and the review theme: the participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women.

This year we launched for International Women's Day #March8 the "Worldwide Declaration of Mothers", which was translated into 5 languages, 70 entities from 32 countries supported it and close to 6 thousand citizens from all over the world signed it.

Our most recent member of the team, Miriam Gómez de Agüero was the representative of our platform to attend the whole 2 weeks' CSW62, the biggest women's event at the international arena. Within this context Miriam presented the Worldwide Declaration of Mothers in three occasions.

  • The first presentation was on March 15th inside the parallel event: "Young Women and the Challenges of the 2030 Agenda" sponsored by the association  Observatory for Women of Latin America and the Caribbean A.C., in which our Mexican partner, ANCIFEM also presented their successful campaign on passing the recognition of the Work-Family Balance Day in Nuevo León State, Mexico, and their project of promoting this initiative at the national level and even internationally jointly with WoW.
  • The second parallel event, hosted by the US non-governmental organization "Big Ocean Women" took place on March 17th under the heading of: "The power of Mothers: how to mentor families in using tech for good", here the Declaration was presented and then Miriam was interviewed on topics like feminism, motherhood, and work-family balance issues.
  • The third time the Declaration was presented on March 19th inside the parallel event of the "Worldwide Organization for Women", in this instance, our partner Citizen-Go supported us logistically making the last intervention worthy to close with a flourish.
As complementary activity on March 13th we were invited by the MP Carmen Quintanilla, political expert in rural women's issues, to the official ceremony at the house of the maximum diplomat of the Permanent Mission of Spain. In this encounter Miriam had the chance to speak and give our Declaration to Dolors Montserrat, Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality of the Reign of Spain.

From WoW we will continue advocating actively in defense of feminine identity, the value and dignity of motherhood in all its aspects, at the UN or wherever it takes. Thanks for trusting us.
