On October 26, the United States Senate confirmed Amy Coney Barret as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
It is an unprecedented historical fact that she is the first woman with school-age children to hold that position. She has 7 children, 2 of whom were adopted in Haiti. The youngest one has Down syndrome and she has described him as the family's favorite. This reflects that her appointment has little to do with quotas or ideologies. Her appointment is the result of a life, a formation process, a heart and a mind where love, courage and human dignity come first. She is an extraordinary woman with that bonus that motherhood gives, and an extra advantage for a special motherhood like hers.
At Women of the World we celebrate her appointment and openly express our admiration for a person who is at the same time a mother of a large family and a brilliant professional; two jobs that require plentiful dedication and both of which are crucial for society.

Coney Barret is a brave and firm woman with strong convictions that have earned her – of course – all types of attacks. But it is these convictions – together with her training – precisely what pushes her to move away from any kind of discrimination or attempt to impose her beliefs on others, and to defend the independence of jurisdictional bodies from any partisan vision, placing them above the political debate.
Congratulations with all our heart, Amy Coney Barret.
