70 entities from 32 countries have signed the Worldwide Declaration of Mothers

On the International Women’s Day, our Platform, Women of the World, launches its Worldwide Declaration of Mothers to bring forward motherhood on the social and political arena and the discrimination mothers suffer.

UN Beijing Platform stated in 1995 that: “Women make a great contribution to the welfare of the family and to the development of society, which is still not recognized or considered in its full importance. The social significance of maternity, motherhood and the role of parents in the family and in the upbringing of children should be acknowledged.” (Paragraph 29) However, women’s role in the family and motherhood are far from real equality and social and political recognition.

The Worldwide Declaration of Mothers refers to one of our society’s critical point with respect to women and motherhood: full dedication to the family, which is vastly underestimated, belittled, and even disregarded in today's world. Instead, it deserves social and political recognition.

The Declaration also puts its finger on the sore when it points that “Women in the labour market often experience discrimination for choosing motherhood”  in fact, labor discrimination of motherhood is an undeniable fact in Western society and one of the greatest challenges of policies in relation to women.

The Declaration will be presented at three parallel events at the UN CSW in New York next week. It will also be sent to politicians and personalities who have real influence on the policies of their countries and on the international institutions. It will be  delivered it in person to politicians from different countries through our partners. And, of course, we will spread it widely in social networks and the media of many countries
